The investigation continues into a deadly crash involving several teens in one part of Luzerne County yesterday. It happened on Old Turnpike Road in Drums just before 1. The identities of those involved including a 17 year old who died and another teen airlifted for medical treatment have not been released.

Powell is seeking sanctions against attorneys who sued him in the ongoing kids-for-cash case, claiming they purposely - and unjustifiably - disclosed his financial situation in a court filing so the media could report the figure. The Citizens' Voice first reported Powell's claim of being $5.6 million in debt on May 5 after discovering the number in documents filed by plaintiff attorneys that apparently were not redacted properly.

Police arrest Drums man who ran plow off road

Butler Township police say a Drums man will be charged with disorderly conduct and a number of traffic violations because he ran a township plow truck off the road during a bout of road rage Thursday in Luzerne County. The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. when a plow driver encountered a disorderly male later identified as Brian Eroh, 48, near St. Johns Road and Old Airport Road.

Could Hazleton’s plan create segregated junior high schools?

One of two plans for re-creating junior high schools in the Hazleton Area School District would merge four predominantly Hispanic schools but leave four predominantly white schools unaffected. In the plan, students from the Hazleton, West Hazleton, Heights-Terrace and Maple Manor elementary-middle schools would attend seventh and eighth grade together in the Hazleton building known as The Castle at Ninth and North Wyoming streets.

Nursing home chain reaches settlement over failure to provide care

A statewide chain of nursing homes with local locations has reached a $2 million settlement with the state Attorney General's Office over allegations that it misled customers and failed to provide basic services to the elderly. Reliant Senior Care Holdings, Inc. and its related companies will be required to pay the office $2 million, of which $1.25 million will go to the state Department of Health to fund its plan to address Pennsylvania's regulatory oversight of nursing homes.
